 Welcome to the 2024 – 2025 year for the Maryland Chapter of HIMSS

 

A Message from Maryland HIMSS President

I am humbled and privileged to be elected as your President and continue my volunteer service to the HIMSS Maryland Chapter (MDHIMSS). As we begin our FY25 at MDHIMSS, we recognize the journey many in the State of Maryland and around the nation are making in the healthcare IT field. The pandemic has taken a toll on our industry – our healthcare organizations are expected to work more with less and are faced with challenges including retention and added budget constraints. MDHIMSS hopes to continue to be a forum by which we can jointly share innovative ideas, education, and dialogue amongst the health IT community as we adjust to this new norm.

We had a very successful last year with the support of the MDHIMSS board and membership. I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank our now-past president, Jennifer Moore, for her leadership and all the successes during her tenure.

This past year has been all about Artificial Intelligence, GenAI, and its implications on our industry. Will it replace many positions and jobs, change how we do our work, and how will it transform every aspect of our lives? There are many unanswered questions and the jury is still out but no matter what, AI is here to stay and will have an impact on our lives. The needs of healthcare are ever growing and there is more and more dependency on information technology. At MDHIMSS, we are constantly working to provide opportunities for our fellow healthcare IT professionals to learn about these emerging technologies, grow, and network through our various educational events. With a strong chapter membership of around 2,000 and growing, we are planning the year to provide answers to many challenges we all face.

In addition, we are continuing to expand our programs this year and build on the work we have been doing at MDHIMSS. All of our committees are expanding, and so is our commitment to collaborate with other organizations to be able to share this information with an even broader audience.

We plan to kick off in the Fall with our annual networking event. This will be an evening to be able to network with your fellow peers from the industry. This will be followed by virtual education events, socials, and our signature MDHIMSS Annual Conference and Golf in the spring of 2025.
