Content will often be provided by the Board and other committees for distribution and delivery by the Communications team. The team also developed guidelines and processes for content curation and management to be utilized by all committee members to streamline internal and external communications plans.

Professional Development
Chair: Mohammad Bajwa; Co-chair: Jeff Ostrow
md.prodev@himsschapter.org

The Professional Development Committee works to find opportunities for our members and future members to increase their professional capabilities in the field of Healthcare Information Management and Technology. The team oversees promotions of Maryland HIMSS Chapter membership, supports member participation in our educational programs and networking opportunities, manages the Maryland HIMSS Scholarship Program, seeks and promotes opportunities for member professional advancement, promotes HIMSS certification programs, recognizes member achievements through special programs and awards, and facilitates mentoring and advancement of veterans and other groups who may need support in entering the field.

If you like to promote and interact with both vendors and participants about the events that MDHIMSS is involved with, then this committee may be for you.

The goal of our advocacy efforts is to educate our legislators, provide opportunities for our membership to connect with them and provide guidance in support of HIT related technology that improves outcomes for our population.  The committee plans events to engage with members of the Maryland House of Delegates Health and Government Operations (HGO) Committee and with advocacy liaisons among our membership to educate them about issues that HIMSS members care about (and to educate our members). Team members will participate in planning throughout the year but may also be asked to take a focused, lead role on an event(s).

The Maryland Chapter covers areas of interest including Clinical Applications & Informatics, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics & Exchange, and Technology & Infrastructure.  To volunteer or share ideas please email one of the Functional Committee Chairs. We are happy to offer ways to become involved. The strength of our volunteers makes our chapter one of the strongest in the nation.
